Agents of Love

My photo of a bee in action

August 2006 I get to read in the news
a family of plants in the Cape
entering the list of endangered species
because of an insect
enabling pollination
becoming extinct:
having a ripple effect in the area.

So next time you talk of insect resistant crops
next time you talk of pesticides
be aware of the effects in the world around you
beware you could be rocking
the frail boat of ecological balance. '

Since times inmemorial some people
introduce their kids to reproduction
talking about the birds and the bees
without realizing the facts behind the humour
insects and birds have among others the important job:

To be agents of love, tiny Cupids of the forests
enabling distant plants to interrelate with each other
when they go, the connection go with them
setting in motion a chain reaction that could take years to reveal itself.
So next time you talk of insect resistant crops next time ........................

Every time an species becomes extinct
our collective ecological inheritance is diminished
everyone in the planet is the poorer
but that is the tip of the iceberg
the effect compounds itself. '

So next time you talk of insect resistant crops next time ........................
